Rangers’ Adam Fox appears ready to go after two ‘maintenance’ days

No one benefited more from the Rangers’ blowout win over the Capitals in the first round than Adam Fox.

The 26-year-old defenseman returned to the ice for Blueshirt practice on Saturday after a five-day recuperation period.

The Rangers did not practice three of five days last week, but Fox was not on the ice with the team on Wednesday and Thursday for what the team called “maintenance.”

But Fox was back in his usual spot alongside Ryan Lindgren just in time to fully prepare for Game 1 against the Hurricanes on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

“You can go now,” he said. “Always take extra rest, [time to] Recover, others have maintenance days, I think it’s important to take that extra vacation. I just took a few days to rest. ”

The Foxes suffered a bit of a blow in Game 4 last Sunday when the Rangers earned a series-clinching victory over the Capitals.

Getting put in a headlock by Tom Wilson right after Vincent Trocheck’s power-play goal late in the first period was another matter, but it was another matter when he collided with Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen. There was a flashback to Fox being placed on long-term injured reserve. This season is back.

“He got a piece of me,” the 2021 Norris Trophy-winning blueliner quipped.

Fox was sidelined for 10 consecutive games in November after suffering a lower-body injury in an eerie knee-to-knee collision with the Hurricanes’ Sebastian Aho.

Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette said Fox had no restrictions during Saturday’s practice, as all signs point to the Jericho, New York, native being available for Game 1. He said it meant.

Fox and Lindgren played the second-longest minutes among the Rangers’ D pairs in the first round, finishing with a time of 49 minutes, 12 seconds behind the 57 minutes, 49 seconds recorded by K’Andre Miller and Braden Schneider.

According to Natural Stat Trick, during 5-on-5 play, the Rangers were on the ice with two points scored and no conceded.

“I think I talked to my trainers and coaches and talked about what’s best and just followed it,” Fox said of his recovery. “At this time of year, if you can get a little more rest, that’s important. I was ready for practice. [Saturday]. It’s great to go out and skate before the game. ”
