The rap beef between industry titans Kendrick Lamar and Drake gripped the world over the weekend, but as the dust settled, one man’s footprint was being celebrated everywhere, including the world of sports. Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux used Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” as his walk-up music when he took to the plate in the bottom of the third inning of a game against the Miami Marlins.
At this point, this feels like a victory lap for Lamar and the dust is falling on this beef. After putting relentless pressure on Drake through hits like “Euphoria,” “6:16 in LA,” and “Meet the Grahams,” Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is more of a summer anthem than a diss track. Sounds like (and probably will). The entire world tuned in to see two of rap’s best in this match, and it quickly became a masterpiece for Lamar over the weekend. Lux using this as her walk-up music feels like just the icing on the cake, with the sports and culture crossover nailing this rap-her beef forever.
This wasn’t the only time they used “Not Like Us.” The song was used as bumper music during Game 2, when the Timberwolves faced the Denver Nuggets. Drake can’t even watch basketball without hearing Lamar dissing him, that’s tough.
Regardless, “Not Like Us” is going to be one of the songs of the summer, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets used more by LA teams.
