In Mexico’s Zacatecas state, gunmen from the Sinaloa cartel torched several vehicles and blocked a highway in response to a series of arrests by authorities.
The violence quickly spread to multiple regions of the state, where the Sinaloa Cartel is engaged in a bitter turf war with a faction of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The violence began in rural areas of the state, where authorities clashed with armed groups in three locations, resulting in six arrests and the seizure of several vehicles and weapons. A police officer also killed one of the gunmen. The clashes occurred in the cities of Fresnillo and Sain Alto, Zacatecas state. According to information released by state authorities, the gunmen all claimed to be members of the Sinaloa Cartel, although authorities listed them as the Cartel del Pacifico. Law enforcement operations consisted of the state police and military.
On Sunday night and Monday morning, gunmen from the Sinaloa cartel carjacked and torched numerous vehicles parked sideways along several highways in the state. The insurgents also blocked several highway toll plazas.
Authorities responded to the chaos caused by the cartel, but were met with fierce resistance, resulting in two gunfights in Fresnillo and Sain Alto.
