CNN Legal Analyst Says It Would Be ‘Big Political Gift’ For Trump To Be Jailed By Judge

CNN legal analyst Michael Moore said Tuesday that it would be politically advantageous if Judge Juan Machan jailed former President Donald Trump for violating the gag order.

Marchan on Monday found that Trump had violated the gag order against him for the 10th time and warned that he would consider jailing the former president for further violations. Moore said on CNN News Central that if the judge follows through on his threat, it would be a “gift” to the former president and a political blow because prison life is not something a typical inmate faces. He said it would also be helpful. But Marchan may do it anyway in an effort to control Trump’s speech. “How do we get President Trump’s attention? How do we maintain the integrity and respect of the court?” Moore asked, looking at Marchand. “How can I protect this process? How can I protect justice? And at the same time, do I fall into the trap of giving a big political gift by putting Mr. Trump in jail? Because he’s never going to go to prison, where a normal person could serve any amount of time.”

“That means he will be isolated and placed in a secure facility,” Moore said. “He may not even see other inmates, he doesn’t have to shower in a shower stall or use the restroom with other inmates. That doesn’t work. So it’s Trump That’s why he’s playing this card, because he knows the chances of him going to prison are slim to none. It’s like the boy on the levee. He sticks his finger in the hole trying to stop the flood, but there’s only so much he can do, and that hole is Trump’s mouth.”

The gag order prohibits President Trump from making comments about witnesses, prosecutors other than the district attorney, court officials, jurors, employees, and the families of district attorneys and judges. Merchan President Trump recently issued a $9,000 fine for contempt for nine violations and warned that further violations could lead to prison time.

“President Trump has not violated the order since then, so talking about going to prison is a serious matter,” Moore said. “It’s another thing to think you might actually wear metal braces and go somewhere, even if it’s somewhere other than Rikers Island now. is.”

Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman warned Monday that if Marchan doesn’t want to appear weak while intimidating former President Trump, he must put him in jail.

“The judge is boxing in his corner at this point,” Tolman said. “He’s going to be the one making the threat, he’s going to impose this limited fine, and he’s doing it on the premise that the underlying order is unconstitutional… He’s the one who’s put himself in this position now. You’re the judge and you’re going to have to punish him.”He’s in prison now because he’s being threatened. Otherwise, he will look reckless and the president will become stronger. ”
