Intoxicated man left granddaughter with homeless woman

Police in California have arrested a man accused of intentionally leaving his granddaughter with a homeless woman to go to a bar and falsely reporting her missing.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says officers were called to the parking lot of a bar in Sacramento on Monday around 7:45 p.m. The man told those around him that he was looking for his 7-year-old granddaughter because she had been kidnapped for the purpose of human trafficking. .

“She might be left with someone she doesn’t really care about.”

Police said the man was “heavily intoxicated” and identified him as 54-year-old Jason Warren.

Warren reportedly told police that he paid a homeless woman to take her granddaughter to a thrift store and then went to a bar. Police said the man was at the bar for about four hours.

Deputies found surveillance video that showed the woman leaving with the child.

The woman heard the search coming over the helicopter’s loudspeaker and took the girl back to the parking lot.

Police said the homeless woman confirmed that Warren paid her $20 to take her child to the thrift store. She also said that Mr. Warren seemed too drunk to take care of her little girl, so he decided to take her to his own camp to get her food. Stated.

KXTV-TV spoke with a homeless woman identified as Lauren Jope.

“I was just walking down the street and this guy asked me, ‘Would you please go with my daughter to the store to buy some pants?'” she said.

Police said the 7-year-old girl confirmed the homeless woman’s story and did not appear to be in distress. She was also medically cleared.

Investigators discovered that the girl’s aunt had full custody of the girl, but that she had left the child with her grandfather because she had to go to work. Police released the girl to her aunt.

“I’m glad I was walking when I was alive, because she could have been left with some guy, or someone who didn’t want to see her, or someone like that who didn’t really care. from,” he said. Joop.

Warren was arrested and charged with child endangerment, among other felonies, and is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on $75,000 bail.
