In an interview aired Wednesday on CNN’s “Outfront,” President Joe Biden said that while “corporate greed” is increasing the amount of money people have to spend on groceries, He said he is experiencing great pain from the cost of groceries and food. And he’s angry that people have to spend more: “If you look at what people have, they have money to spend.”
Presenter Erin Burnett said:[T]This is where the real pain lies. Grocery prices have increased by more than 30% since the pandemic began, and people are spending more on food and groceries than at any point in the past 30 years. It’s really a daily pain for people. ”
Mr. Biden interjected: But actually, if you look at what people have, they have money to spend. Having to spend more money pisses them off, and it pisses me off too. For example, the whole idea of this concept that Sen. Casey (D-PA) talks about shrinkflation. …For example, at a Snickers bar, he was 20% cheaper for the same price. It’s corporate greed, it’s corporate greed. And we have to deal with it and that’s what I’m working on. ”
