Nelly Korda historic chase at Cognizant Founders Cup off to strong start

Nelly Korda started the Cognizant Founders Cup tournament with a 3-under 69. This will leave her aiming for more wins in her 2024. As of this writing, she is tied for sixth place on the stack leaderboard.

Korda has a five-fight winning streak, which ties her with Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam for the most wins in history.

Korda got off to a strong start, but she’s still in good spirits, although she’s four shots behind leader Madeleine Sagstrom, who shot a 7-under 65.

“I had four birdies and one bogey, so overall it was a good day,” Korda said after his round. “I didn’t make too many mistakes, and if I did, I gave myself a chance to win with a par because this golf course is so short from the tee. I was bailed out several times. Overall, it was a fulfilling day.”

The world No. 1 player suffered a bogey on the par-4 13th hole, leaving a blemish on his card. But after that failure, she got back on track and stayed her course.

He got his second birdie of the day on the 9th hole, the 18th. Korda would make two more shots on the back nine, including the par-5 ninth. finish her day A great success.

Despite a rocky history at this track, Korda’s quest for a sixth consecutive win is off to a promising start. Her resilience and determination are evident as she prepares to take on her club in Upper Montclair, a course that wasn’t necessarily favorable to her.

She finished 72-74 with 2 over and missed out on qualifying last year.

But her five straight wins this year have all come on different types of tracks.

“You always have to be there and know you have a game to play no matter what,” she said. “Making a four- or five-footer for par gives you a lot of confidence. You have to rely on everything you’ve been practicing and take advantage of the opportunity. Everyone is in the same boat. Who? We play the same golf course every week.

She tends to become more aggressive as the tournament progresses each week. Still, Ms. Korda knows when she needs to play smart golf because it’s impossible to win an event on the first day. Don’t lose it.

“We still have three days left…we know the weather isn’t going to be great and there are just a lot of factors that come into play for the rest of the tournament,” Korda said. “So I’m glad we got a good result. We still have a long way to go until Sunday.”

Korda will be heading into the second round in Friday afternoon’s waves as he looks to make history and win his sixth straight LPGA Tour title.
