The update is part of TikTok’s broader efforts to combat AI-driven misinformation, our colleague Philip Timotija reported.
To label content, TikTok uses Coalition on Content Origin and Authenticity (C2PA), a project that provides the resources needed to identify AI-generated content.
TikTok announced it will use C2PA’s “Content Credentials” technology, which attaches metadata to content that indicates to users that the content was generated by AI. TikTok said in an announcement that the feature will be available for both images and videos starting Thursday, but will also be available for audio-only content “soon.”
TikTok’s decision comes as other platforms also seek to increase the transparency of AI on their platforms. metais the parent company of. Facebook and Instagramannounced in February that it would begin labeling more AI-generated content and remove some that violate its policies.
TikTok already labels content created with tools within the app.
