Democrats came to Mike Johnson’s rescue and helped protect him from a motion to resign.

The Epoch Times reported:

On May 8, the House overwhelmingly blocked a bill proposed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) that would strip House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) of the gavel.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) met twice this week with the speaker to discuss her grievances and demands before forcing a vote on her motion to leave.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) then proposed a measure to move Greene to resign. Democrats joined Republicans in approving the hold on a 359-43 vote. Eleven Republicans voted to move forward with the expulsion attempt.

House Democratic leaders previously said they would protect Johnson if there was a vote to expel Greene, citing her help in passing a $95 billion foreign aid bill for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific region. He promised to cooperate.

Now he vows to save Jack Smith.

Breitbart reported:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) wasted little time after 163 Democrats voted to keep him in the House speakership after Special Counsel Jack Smith – Announced that he would not use Congress’s constitutional authority to block “legal action” against Trump.

The speaker, in some of his early public comments after Democrats rescued the gavel, rejected attempts to defund Smith’s office as it continues to prosecute Trump.

“It’s not just a matter of waving a wand and eliminating the special counsel as a provision,” Johnson told Politico. “Such a function is necessary because the Justice Department, as an executive branch agency, may not necessarily be able to investigate or prosecute the president, his boss, or the president’s family without a conflict of interest.”

Asked bluntly whether he would write language into the spending bill that would eliminate Smith’s job, Johnson said “no.”
