How Republican rebels could reshape politics as we know it

Just last year, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) is already on thin ice with some Republicans, and Democrats have vowed to step in and save him if necessary. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is leaving office, and there will be a fierce battle over who will be next. Every major bill seems to pass with Democrats weaving away at a group (often a small number) of Republicans to get liberal priorities across the finish line.

Who is to blame for the infighting within the Republican Party in the House and Senate?

This is a growing rebellion against irresponsible governance among the American people, and the new conservative leaders are simply giving it a voice.

The Democratic Party and mainstream media would like us to believe that this is a civil war led by conservatives. These “republican traitors” have no idea of the big picture. They pursue personal fame and glory at the expense of good governance.

Leaders in both chambers want voters to believe they are responsible adults. But what did their “adult” rule bring us?

We haven’t had a balanced budget since the Clinton administration.

Interest on the debt is about to exceed total defense spending.

Social Security and Medicaid are predicted to be insolvent by 2036.

For the first time since the 1970s, the prospect of stagflation looms over us.

Millions of illegal immigrants are pouring across the cartel-controlled southern border.

Biden’s weakness has emboldened foreign adversaries, and the allies he is endangering are seeking expensive aid.

Our Department of Defense appears to be prioritizing the interests of military contractors and lobbyists over actual defense.

Our education system is producing large numbers of students who believe capitalism is bad, the Constitution is outdated, and socialism is the future.

The House Freedom Caucus and a small group of conservatives in the Senate are now openly fighting the irresponsible leadership of a small group of Democrats and Democrats in what some are beginning to call the “Union Party.” This is precisely due to the failure of governance. Republicans want us to believe that everything will be fine unless we have the audacity to challenge a small but powerful cabal.

These brave Republican rebels are taking unprecedented steps to fight back. They wage fierce leadership contests and mine outdated procedural rules to block or slow bad legislation. They even support members of their own party in primaries. For example, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) endorsed me against Congresswoman Celeste Malloy, a Republican incumbent and a Unionist supporter.

This is not a Republican civil war. This is a revolt against irresponsible governance that is growing within and among the American people, and these new conservative leaders are simply giving it voice.

What we are witnessing is the beginning of a backlash as significant as the conservative backlash of the 1980s after the Republican and Democratic failures of the 1960s and 70s.

But be careful. The United Party’s most powerful weapon is not hundreds of millions in campaign contributions or control of Washington. It’s demoralizing.

Members of the Unionist Party are counting on you to quietly comply. Don’t let them convince you that their destructive reign is the best we can do.

Rights reform is possible. A balanced budget is possible. Secure borders are possible. Our foreign policy does not have to involve endless foreign wars. Our education system can reteach history.

I have spent 31 years in our country’s uniform, participating in combat around the world as a Green Beret A-Team commander. Bold leadership is easy to recognize when you see it.

We are depressed, but we can’t get out. Night is about to fall again in America.

And when that happens, the conservative militants, the traitorous Republican traitors, will thank us for showing the leadership that the American people demand.

God bless these leaders and may the American people send you the reinforcements you deserve.

Colby Jenkins is the Republican candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.
