Next weekend’s F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is sure to be filled with heartfelt tributes as it marks 30 years since the tragic death of legendary driver Ayrton Senna. The legendary driver lost his life in an accident during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, site of next weekend’s F1 race.
One of the first tributes has already been delivered to us, as alpine driver Pierre Gasly has unveiled a special helmet that he will wear at next weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in honor of the legendary driver.
Gasly introduced the helmet on social media on Friday.
“I will pay tribute to one of my idols, one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, at Imola. In memory of Ayrton’s achievements, I will wear Senna’s specially designed helmet,” Gasly said. wrote on social media. “He has been a huge inspiration to me since I first started karting and a few days ago I had the opportunity and privilege to drive his first F1 car (Tallman 1984) at Silverstone.
“It was an incredible experience and feeling to sit in his car wearing this special helmet. It was such a unique feeling to get a taste of what it was like back then when it was just man and machine. Forgotten. No emotions and a day. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.”
In his social media post, Gasly also shared an image of himself behind the wheel of Senna’s 1984 Toleman, with the legendary driver scoring three podiums during his rookie season.

At last week’s Miami Grand Prix, a mural honoring Senna was unveiled at Hard Rock Stadium, paying homage to the legendary driver.
