Why do the most insightful fans often know before the GM, manager, coach, or assigned media specialist?
MLB has been reduced to a primitive practice of trying to hit a home run or strike out, and pitchers are allotted one and a half innings before returning to the bullpen, so much progressive and analytical wishful thinking Even the people now know that they have fallen into nonsense and advocated nonsense. or to Syracuse, Scranton, or Modesto.
Basic and functional strategies have disappeared. And that often leads to the bottom of the ninth inning of a tied game, after which a speed-up legalized runner is on second base to start overtime.
But even artificial additives seem to fall outside of common sense and easily applied strategies.
Reader Sam Agami still can’t figure out what Aaron Boone was, or wasn’t, thinking a week ago Friday in the stadium against the Tigers.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, with the score 1-1, the Yankees placed Alex Verdugo at No. 3 and Giancarlo Stanton at No. 2, and Manager Boone replaced Stanton with pinch runner Taylor Trammell. Trammell runs faster, or at least faster, than Stanton. So it seemed like it made sense.
Except for the fact that it wasn’t, Stanton wouldn’t even have to move – and he’s good at it!
As Agami pointed out, if Verdugo scores from third base, the game is over. For example, in the 11th inning of a game, Trammell would replace Stanton as the batter.
Agami: “He must have a genius analytical ability that exceeds my thinking ability.”
Reader Ron Eckstein doesn’t get it either:
“In the second half of overtime, if the runner is on second base, wouldn’t it be more reasonable to walk the first batter at any base and set up a double play or force?”
“If it’s a tie, the winning point is second base anyway.
“I’ve never seen anything like that happen, or even mentioned by the announcers. It seems like a simple and logical strategy.”
Wednesday, Tigers vs. Cleveland, 4-4, bottom of the 10th inning. The Guardians advanced an automatic runner to third base – holy Gino Cimoli! — sacrifice bunt.
But that still leaves the Tigers open at first base, thus forcing an infielder to play. The match ended with a single over the middle. There was no chance for a double play, as Detroit ruled it out as a matter of strange selection or professional negligence.
Recently, many beeping sounds have stopped.
I hope the bottom is not so inexorable that it doesn’t allow for any bounce back.
Now it seems everyone who speaks out is desperate to be heard as a vile, vulgar slug. class? Right off the bat, very few people will know what it is to recognize it, let alone put it into practice.
This televised roast of Tom Brady was just an exercise in confusing, belittling, don’t forget to shout “F–k!” humor. Social vandalism.
That “comedian” Kevin Hart has plunged into the commercial sports world, including sports gambling, just because he yells “FK” a lot — he’s more curious than funny — and… was the first of many clues.
It never ceases to baffle me why celebrities and famous athletes go to such lengths to be seen and heard as preoccupied with the thoughts and scorn of a naughty 6th grade boy. And I don’t get confused easily.

But they appear to be lining up to be seen in the lowest acceptable light as what former ESPN anchor Bob Ray calls “the bastardization of America” continues its downward spiral with no upside.
Even if you take your kids to daytime sports championship parades and ceremonies, be prepared to hear vulgar abuse shouted into a microphone. And as social standards decline to the point where the plaintiffs are seen as out of touch with modern times, the offenders flee.
And there is not one member of the committee who does not even try to call for common sense. what? ! And risk offending the most aggressive person? Who will Roger Goodell invite to “entertain” at Super Bowl halftime? Is he going to defend public decency?
WFAN’s Evan Roberts has become the obligatory scumbag on drive-time radio, calling people “shitholes” and encouraging Knicks fans in the Garden to bad-mouth the Pacers during player introductions.
Not only would Mr. Roberts be appalled if his children were sitting near people who responded to his antisocial promptings, but he also probably would have been better raised to act out his sordid life on air. Because he’s not used to it, he’s not particularly convincing as someone who regularly uses foul language.
In an intuitive but practical sense, would Roberts, a father of two young children, encourage his children to become public servants, especially to make a living? Not a chance!
We must therefore conclude that Roberts’ classless, trash-painted act is exactly what it takes to become a WFAN radio star, in these low and abominable days. It is an act to gain a certain position.
Think about how retrograde it is to say, “But I would never behave like that in my private life!”
Actor and comedian Albert Brooks said he blew up in front of a crowd of young people until he had an idea. He would “scream curses.” He did so and immediately captivated the audience and the night.
It was that easy.
Who will MLB “connect” with?
Reader Gary Siegel has questions for ESPN’s Stanley Cup broadcast producers and directors. “Isn’t it more important for a player to stick to the puck than to see him go back to the bench?”
I can answer as follows. With ESPN, you never know.
MLB’s new “City Connect” uniforms were clearly designed by Nike to covet street gang appeal and help MLB better compete in the threat trade. Or do you think Nike and its sports partners no longer know exactly what they’re doing, why, how much, and for whom?
Come to think of it, I’m surprised that Nike and its Chinese Communist Party business partners haven’t already manufactured highly flammable US, UK, and Israeli flags for pro-Hamas groups to burn.
Because the Swoosh is sacred, it will be made of asbestos.
As professional political lobbyists tell us, bribes come in many forms, from a wink and a nod to something you can stuff in a duffel bag.
The PGA is paying Tiger Woods about $100 million and Rory McIlroy about $50 million for not using Bolt, essentially for the Saudi government’s money.
We both have bills piling up, so this will also be done in time.
For example, how does Wilson Farr, a former mini-tour player who ranks 196th on the PGA money list with $800,000, feel about that?
statistics more!:
Wednesday’s game between the Tigers and the Guardians featured 10 players batting .194 or lower in the lineup.
As U.S. universities try to recruit tennis players from countries as far away as New Zealand, the highest-ranked U.S. pro currently is No. 13 Taylor Fritz.
Cardinals DH Nolan Gorman is batting .172 with 43 strikeouts in 116 at-bats. Oh, but he hit four home runs! Through 2¹/₂ seasons, Gorman recorded 294 strikeouts in his 805 at-bats. This equates to 37 percent of his at-bats. — but he’s hitting his 45th home run, so as I said at the beginning of this column, that’s all that matters.
