The Burning Man festival has removed a giant pro-Palestinian sculpture from the list of art installations scheduled to be displayed at the festival. A big gathering this summer.
More than 1,000 people I signed the online petition Organizers are demanding the removal of an 8-foot-by-14-foot fiberglass watermelon titled “From River to Sea” that was previously posted on the event’s website, but organizers say the listing has caused “noisy”. He said it was submitted just to provoke and probably won’t be removed. Join us for an annual festival in the Nevada desert.
“The phrase ‘from river to sea’ is more than just words. It is a battle cry that justifies violence against Jews and promotes a vision that denies the Jewish state’s right to exist,” the petitioners argued.
The phrase has been common among anti-Israel demonstrators since the war began with Hamas’s brutal attack on Israel on October 7.
“There is absolutely no room for hatred or anti-Semitism!” one signer of the petition commented. “Especially at a festival that promotes freedom and acceptance! Shame!”
The original list posted on Burning Man’s website stated that the watermelon has become iconic because it shares the same red, black, white, and green colors as the Palestinian flag, which was banned from Israel in 1967. It was claimed that
The work was by “Decolonize Now” and claimed to have come directly from Gaza.
However, a spokesperson for the week-long festival, scheduled to begin Aug. 25, said it is “likely” the sculpture will not make its way to the Nevada festival in August.
“Given the history of how the exhibit was submitted, this is likely not the actual artwork exhibited at Black Rock City, and that the exhibit was intended to provoke an emotional response within the Burning Man community. I can think of it.” Statement shared with San Francisco Gate Said.
Organizers did not immediately respond to The Post’s inquiries.
After the listing was removed from the site, pro-Palestinian supporters flooded the festival’s social media.
“The really bad thing is that [sic] He is an artist and his work is being censored,” one commenter said. Another accused Burning Man of “causing” to Zionists.
The week-long Desert Rave is described as “a global ecosystem of artists, makers, and community organizers co-creating art, events, and community initiatives around the world.” Promote “radical self-expression” and “radical inclusion.”
