Rumors of the Nuggets’ demise have been greatly exaggerated, with Denver tying the series against the Timberwolves on Sunday night and taking a three-game lead.
The best moment of the Nuggets’ 115-107 victory wasn’t Nikola Jokic’s MVP-worthy game, or Aaron Gordon’s ascent to another plane that he couldn’t miss, but the series after the first half. It was a scene of Jamal Murray is destined to become an icon.
Denver scored five points in 9.2 seconds. First on a breakaway by Steele and Michael Porter Jr., then on the inbounds, Murray intercepted a pass and raised a half-court prayer. This was as clean as we’ve seen in the playoffs. .
What capped it all was when Murray walked to the announcer’s desk and came within inches of Kevin Harlan. That way, he could watch his work video call.
The whole sequence was really beautiful. There’s nothing that takes so much effort yet is so easy and cool. It had a pretty big psychological impact, and the Nuggets let the Timberwolves know they were feeling it, and Minnesota was forced to respond.
Obviously Anthony Edwards and his friends. Even though the results fell short, he loved the energy of the interaction with Denver.
One thing is for sure: the next two games of this series are not to be missed on TV.
