Police in Texas say a pizza deliveryman says he shot and killed a man he was trying to rob, but the victim’s family is questioning his story.
Police said the man was attempting to deliver a pizza to a home on Yellowstone Boulevard around 11 p.m. when he got into an argument with a customer.
A delivery man shot and killed a man.
When police responded, the delivery driver said he had been attacked by two men, one of whom had a gun and attempted to rob him. The other man said his companion fled after being shot.
“Only God has the final answer.”
“We don’t know why the pizza delivery failed and someone was shot and killed,” said Houston Police Sgt. Mark Holbrook. “But that’s what we’re currently investigating.”
The deliveryman was not injured.
Police have not released the identity of the man who was killed, but a man named Amir White told WTHRTV He identified the man’s brother as 21-year-old Aleyeh White.
“They say he was a pizza delivery guy, but we don’t have receipts of him buying pizza,” Amir White said. “If you were a pizza delivery guy, why did you have a weapon?”
Despite his comments, Holbrook appeared to confirm to reporters that police had confirmed the delivery of the pizza.
“The driver is cooperating and speaking with law enforcement regarding this incident, and there were witnesses who saw part of what happened,” Holbrook said. “We had pizza delivered.”
Police have not confirmed whether a gun was recovered from the deceased man’s body.
The younger brother of the man who was shot said the two lived together in a room at the apartment complex and that he was at his girlfriend’s apartment when the shooting occurred.
“It definitely devastated me because he said he would be home in 30 minutes and I was staying up for him,” Amir White added.
Houston police said a grand jury will decide whether the man will be indicted in the shooting.
“Honestly, only God has the final answer. I’m sure God will find it for us,” he concluded. “I’m just trying to keep myself and my family strong.”
