Shocking video shows Texas child dodging gunfire as bullets fly past him during drive-by shooting

A disturbing video shows a 9-year-old Texas child dodging bullets during a drive-by shooting just outside his apartment building.

The video, taken in early May, shows the child crawling on a couch and screaming when he hears gunshots. During the video, smoke and debris from the gunfire billowed into the living room.

The frightened boy crouches down and looks expectantly toward the window. After a while, he dashed from the couch to another part of the apartment.

The shooting occurred on May 1st at the Miramar Apartments and Townhomes in Fort Worth, Texas, injuring six people. Four children were among the injured, NBC DFW reported.

The child’s mother, Maryjane Gonzalez, told NBC DFW that the video shows her son running toward her for safety.

“I came out here to make sure he was okay and to see exactly where they shot. And as I came out here, the whole family downstairs was screaming. I heard it,” she explained.

Gonzalez, who works as a medical assistant, told local news outlets that she tried to stop the bleeding in one of the victims, a 3-year-old girl.

“That was really tough for me,” she said. “I saw her go in and out of consciousness.”

The mother said she was trying to move her family to a safer area following the shooting, but Fort Worth police are still investigating.

“It has changed our lives forever. We are traumatized,” Gonzalez said. “I’ve never seen anyone get shot, let alone a child. I’ve never experienced anything like that.”
