‘Furiosa’ debuts in Cannes, giving Anya Taylor-Joy a megawatt movie-star moment

‘Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga’ opens at Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, director George Miller’s dystopian on wheels returns to French Riviera Film Festival, starring Anya Taylor-Joy brought a fairytale-like moment to the Cannes red carpet.

In her first film at Cannes, Taylor-Joy brought classic movie star glamor to the festival’s most anticipated premiere. Wearing a cream custom Dior dress, Taylor-Joy entered the Palais des Festivals and playfully posed for photographers while giving a mock salute to the director.

The latest Mad Max film, starring Chris Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy as young Furiosa, premiered at Cannes almost exactly nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road premiered at the French film festival. It was screened. Miller, who has served on the Cannes jury many times, also premiered his own “Three Thousand Years” here in 2022.

“It’s a huge deal to be able to show this movie in a movie theater with perfect acoustics and screening for about 2,000 people. This is the perfect movie,” Miller said before the premiere. Told. “The moment they said, ‘Okay, we’d be happy to show this movie here,’ I jumped at it.”

For Taylor-Joy, 28, seeing “Furiosa” in Cannes was a full-circle moment. The first time she came to this festival was in 2017 when she received the Chopard trophy as a new actor. Presenting her trophy was original Furiosa and “Fury Road” star Charlize Theron.
