UFC middleweight fighter Michel Pereira was caught on video rescuing dozens of dogs from a forgotten area as Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state was hit by devastating flooding.
More than 25 inches of rain has fallen in the Brazil region in just a few weeks. This is reportedly more than the average annual rainfall in London, England.
Lake Guaiba has flooded the state capital Porto Alegre, with water levels rising to more than 17 feet and flooding expected to continue for several more weeks, according to reports. Reuters.

Pereira and his team travel by boat or jet ski, often at night, searching for helpless animals.
In the heartbreaking video posted, XPereira talked about some of the challenges he faced during the rescue.
“These are sad scenes. These are powerful scenes. But these scenes you and I need to see to understand how much Rio Grande do Sul needs us at this moment. ” the post reads.
“We have been fighting this never-ending battle for several days now. The water stinks. The water is cold and it hurts. The water makes everything difficult. But today alone we lost 26 dogs and 3 guinea pigs. has been rescued. We are here for you. Let’s get out of this, let’s keep donating and keep supporting.”
“We work until 7 p.m. and then the faction continues shooting into the night.”

The fighter explained that he rescued nearly 20 dogs in one day.
“Hello everyone. It’s another day. Thank you for rescuing 23 dogs out there today. It’s very cold. It’s very cold and the water is cold as hell so it’s very difficult. But… Thank God we were able to rescue 23 dogs there.”
“Like that guy said, we are the last team out of the water every day. “I thank God every day for my rescue,” he said. he continued. “Then tomorrow morning we’ll be here again to fight this new battle.”
Pereira explained that the team leaves very early in the day due to gang activity at night.
“You hear gunshots every day because of the factions, and it becomes very dangerous at night.”
“We work until 7 p.m. and then the faction continues shooting into the night,” he explained.
Earlier in the day, the fighter said he was dedicated to the expedition and that it was his “purpose.”
“Wednesday…another day of battle here. Today more than 15 animals were rescued from this vast body of water. What I’m seeing is a terrible sight for the cruelest of humans like me. “It’s heartbreaking, but my goal remains to help the victims. That’s what we need most, we’re all one people,” he said. State officials reportedly estimated that about 250,000 homes were without power and about 135,000 people without access to water. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that nearly $1,000 would be distributed to 240,000 families who lost their homes and furniture.
