Juan Soto returned to being Juan Soto.
After a quiet eight games in which he went 4-for-31 at bat, the Yankees’ star outfielder made a big splash Saturday against the White Sox, hitting home runs in two of his first three at-bats.
This was Soto’s first multi-home run game as a Yankee and the 18th of his career.
Both home runs were surefire hits for White Sox right-hander Brad Keller in right field.
The first was a 417-foot shot from a changeup up the middle in the first inning that tied the game at one point.
Soto, who had an RBI in the second inning, fought back in the fifth inning, hitting an inside fastball 437 feet to give the Yankees a 6-1 lead.
The two-homer day marked Soto’s 11th of the season, putting him in double digits behind teammates Aaron Judge (12) and Giancarlo Stanton (11), who also hit a homer off Keller on Saturday. .
Soto’s big day comes as both he and Hal Steinbrenner agreed to discuss a contract extension during the season, even though the 25-year-old is still likely to become a free agent for a big payday next offseason. The visit came two days after he said he was willing to negotiate.
