Max Homa didn’t win the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, but he became an Instagram legend after capping off an eventful PGA Championship weekend with top-level excitement.
Homa, who shot a 2-under 69 in the final round of the major at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, to tie for 35th place with a total of 8 under, cheekily teased fellow PGA Tour star Scottie Schaefer. I looked back on my performance while appearing in the competition. He was arrested before the start of Friday’s second round, but finished the day with a 5-under 66.
“Frustrating week in Kentucky. Lost on Friday morning to a guy who was literally in jail. Tough look for me. The journey continues next week in Fort Worth.” Homa captioned the Instagram post. It included a photo from the game at Valhalla, where Scheffler finished tied for eighth overall.
Homa, ranked No. 9 in the world, had an impressive performance at the Masters last month, finishing in a career-best tie for third at Augusta National.
His followers couldn’t stop laughing at the comment and enjoyed something of a victory lap on social media.
“Caption of the year,” one user commented, while another posted: “You’re the best, Max.” Love your job! 😂”
