At least 45 people were shot, one fatally, in Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) city over the weekend.
ABC7/ Chicago Sun-Times report One fatal shooting occurred Saturday around 11:30 p.m. There was an altercation, and two of the people involved pulled guns and fired shots. Two men, ages 50 and 44, and a 27-year-old woman were shot.
The 44-year-old man had a handgun, but dropped it after he was shot. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Breitbart News reported that at least 21 people were shot over the weekend of May 10-12, 2024, and three of the shooting victims succumbed to their injuries.
Like all of Illinois, Chicago requires residents to obtain a Firearm Owner Identification Card (FOID) to legally own a gun. The process of obtaining a card includes a thorough background check by the Illinois State Police.
Other regulations in effect in Chicago include a statewide ban on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases, and red flag laws. Additionally, Cook County, where Chicago is located, has its own “assault weapons” ban.
