The two explained the details of the bill in writing. wall street journal Editorial on monday. In the article, they call the procedure “very pro-family.” They also pointed out that his 2% of all births in the United States are through in vitro fertilization.
The bill by Mr. Cruz (R-Texas) and Mr. Britt (R-Ala.) would require states to allow this process in order to receive Medicaid funding.
But the senators clarified that the bill does not prescribe what standards states can use to regulate the process.
“Our bill would not prevent states from setting health and safety standards to govern IVF, nor would it prevent states from coercing individuals or organizations to provide IVF against their wishes or beliefs. “No such federal law currently exists, so this merely ensures that access to IVF is fully protected by federal law,” the senators wrote.
Cruz and Britt’s bill also aims to clarify confusion about the legal status of the process, following an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that forced providers to cease operations.
