Bob Barr elected new NRA president

Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia has been elected as the new president of the National Rifle Association (NRA), as the gun rights organization enters a new chapter following the resignation of Wayne LaPierre earlier this year.

Burr, who served in Congress until 2003, said the NRA needed to expand its membership, especially in a presidential election year.

“I would like to thank my colleagues for supporting my election as NRA President,” Barr said. statement“I have been a warrior all my life and I am committed to fighting valiantly for Second Amendment rights on behalf of millions of NRA members. Especially in this election year, we need to step up our ranks and I pledge to be dedicated to doing just that.”

Barr, a 2008 Liberal presidential candidate, was elected to the new post at Monday’s NRA board meeting.

Doug Hamlin has also been named executive vice president and CEO of the organization. Mr. Hamlin previously served as executive director of NRA Publications and joined the group in 2014.

“I am truly humbled to have been selected by the NRA Board of Directors to be the NRA’s next executive vice president and CEO,” Hamlin said in a statement. “Our association is at a critical moment in our history, and America’s future and constitutional freedoms depend on the NRA’s success.”

Former President Trump addressed NRA members at the convention on Saturday. He had the group’s support and urged members to vote in November.

LaPierre, who led the group for more than 30 years, announced his resignation in early January as the group filed a civil lawsuit.

In February, Mr. LaPierre was ordered by a Manhattan jury to pay more than $4 million for mismanagement of a charity fund.
