When a PFT commentator and co-host suggested that the photo in the group chat be changed to one of Schauffele’s arrest, Schauffele said, “Obviously, that’s what happened.”

“He handled it really well,” Schauffele added. “In true Scottie Scheffler fashion, he’s a good guy. When I saw it, I thought it was a prank, but then I saw it on the news and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that really happened!’ It seems like he’s going to come out of all of this okay. I feel like things are going to fall into place.”

Before the final round on Sunday, reports emerged that Schauffele had finished strong and that Schauffele had made a birdie putt on the 18th to beat Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke to win the tournament. Scheffler is charged with second-degree assault on a police officer (a Class C felony in Kentucky), third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and failing to comply with a traffic police officer’s warning signal.
“This morning I was acting on instructions from a police officer. It was a very chaotic situation, which is understandable given the tragic accident that had occurred earlier. There was a big misunderstanding about that,” Scheffler said. he said in a statement before teeing up the second round after his arrest. “I had no intention of ignoring the instructions. Today I want to put that aside and focus on golf.”
