Louisiana State Police are investigating a horrifying case in which a 15-year-old girl was allegedly abused by her mother and her boyfriend.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soigny announced details of the investigation in an emotional media briefing May 15.

“I can’t even put into words or comprehend that someone could do something like that to their child.”
Soigner said the abuse came to light after a car accident on April 21 involving the victim, her mother, LaTonya Harris, 40, another child and the mother’s boyfriend, Terrence Washington, 41.
Police said Washington was on his way to Texas when he crashed on Interstate 10 while driving recklessly, but was horrified to find the victim in the back seat with injuries unrelated to the accident.
Soigner said the girl had “extensive burns over much of her upper body and multiple gunshot wounds.”
Police said Washington admitted to sexually abusing the girl and shooting her with a shotgun, and also admitted that he knew Harris had set the girl on fire.
Soigner said he also took custody of a 10-year-old child.
“You could say they’re pure evil.”
Investigators believe the boy had been abused for several months in the couple’s mobile home in Terrebonne Parish.
Washington and Harris were arrested and the girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Her father said he allowed his daughter to live with Harris after she expressed a desire to be reunited with her mother — a fateful decision he now regrets.
At first, the boy was allowed contact, but the contact gradually became less and eventually stopped completely.
“If they didn’t want her, they could have brought her back. They could have called and we would have come and picked her up. They could have brought her back to where she loves her,” Latricia Johnson said.
Her parents said that despite the horrific events she went through, she wanted to study to become a lawyer and help other children suffering from abuse.
