In 2016, former Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard never thought she’d be in a position to speak out about rumors that she might be President Donald Trump’s running mate.
But that’s exactly where Gabbard, who shockingly endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2016, now finds herself.
“I’m not going to ask him anything other than whether he’s ever had a conversation about being vice president.” Glenn Beck I ask curiously.
“I spoke to him. I’m not going to talk about what we talked about,” Gabbard told Glenn, adding that she would “work” in the Trump administration if she was in a position where she felt she could “actually contribute effectively to rebuilding the country.”
“Can you help me understand when Bernie Sanders says he’d be happy to work in the Trump administration?” Glenn asks.
“I’m glad you asked,” Gabbard said, “because on the surface, that’s kind of a big mental leap. But actually, if you think about why I stepped down as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2016 and announced that I was going to be involved in the Democratic presidential primary, I was focused on one thing.”
Gabbard acknowledges that Sanders has changed a lot since she endorsed him, but the reasons she supported him in the past remain the same.
“I announced that I was supporting Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton on foreign policy,” she says. “There was a very clear contrast between Hillary Clinton, the queen of warmongering, and Bernie Sanders, who for a long time has been primarily a non-interventionist.”
“As an American citizen, a soldier and a veteran of various wars and conflicts, I felt strongly that Hillary Clinton would be the most dangerous president and commander in chief to our country, our freedoms, our security and our rights.”
