A 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to a Brooklyn high school, police officials said.
Police said that around 8:25 a.m., a school security guard found a weapon in the boy’s school bag as the boy was going through a metal detector at George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School at the intersection of Tillary and Bridge Streets in Downtown Brooklyn.
Police officials said the semi-automatic rifle had nine rounds in the magazine and one bullet in the chamber.

The boy was taken into custody but had not been charged by late afternoon.
According to its website, the school has about 580 students and offers “career and technical education pathways” focused on electrical installation, computer science, culinary arts, information technology and data science, as well as a STEAM center.
