The adorable Shiba Inu dog that became the face of a meme used by Dogecoin passed away early Friday morning, its owner announced in a moving and poetic eulogy.
Kavos is believed to have been 18 years old.
The dog, known worldwide for its adorable sideways glances, “fell into a deep sleep” at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, said its owner, Japanese language teacher Atsuko Sato, 62. I wrote a sweet poem On her blog.
“While I was caressing her, she passed away peacefully, as if in her sleep,” Sato wrote, according to a translation by Agence France-Presse.
“I think Kabo was the happiest dog in the world, and I was the happiest owner in the world.”
Kavos revealed in December that his beloved pet was seriously ill with leukemia and liver disease.
Sato rescued the dog in 2008, so he doesn’t know its exact age, but he estimates it’s at least 18 years old, which is longer than the average lifespan of a Shiba Inu.

In 2010, the teacher took a photo of his pet cross-legged on a couch, an image that has spawned memes for decades and become the poster dog for Dogecoin, a satirical cryptocurrency backed by Elon Musk.
The photo was also made into an NFT digital artwork and sold for $4 million.
