President Biden’s reelection campaign released a new ad on Friday narrated by actor Robert De Niro, claiming that former President Trump is a “crazy, power-hungry candidate.”
30 seconds advertisementThe video, titled “Snapped,” is part of a $14 million paid media buy the campaign plans to make in May and will air on general market television and digital platforms in battleground states, as well as national cable TV.
“From his late-night tweets to drinking bleach to tear-gassing citizens to photo-ops, we knew Trump was out of control when he was president, but then he lost the 2020 election and flipped out — desperately trying to hang on to power. Now he’s running again, this time threatening to become a dictator and nullify the Constitution,” De Niro says in the ad.
It includes footage of Trump saying there would be a “bloody catastrophe” if he wasn’t elected.
Trump first used the bloodbath in a speech about auto imports, arguing that Biden’s reelection would hurt the industry, and then used it again to describe the situation at the border.
“Trump wants revenge and will stop at nothing to get it,” De Niro said.
The campaign says the ad is intended to highlight the differences between Biden and Trump ahead of the November election.
“This ad paints a stark contrast voters will see when Trump stands on the debate stage next to Joe Biden in a month: Trump is running to restore power for himself. Joe Biden is running to serve the American people,” said Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
The Biden campaign is focusing on battleground states because of new Bloomberg/Morning Consult Poll Polls this week showed Trump leading Biden by four points in several key states.
Biden is trailing Trump nationally by 1.1 percentage points, according to a Decision Desk HQ/The Hill poll tally.
