Democrats and their allies in the liberal media are desperate to undermine the U.S. Supreme Court and blunt its conservative influence. This public-private campaign is focused on portraying Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas as ideologically compromised culture warriors who are incapable of impartially deciding cases related to the January 6 protests and former President Donald Trump.
The same partisans
April’s Silence Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson prejudice In connection with the Idaho incident sexhas in recent weeks futilely called for Justice Alito to recuse himself from various cases in which critics, including House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, are politically involved.
Growing increasingly desperate and unable to stoke sufficient outrage over Justice Alito’s American flag and divestment from Bud Light’s parent company, public and private activists found another problem: the “Appeal to Heaven” flag that the justice reportedly flew at his New Jersey beach house last summer.
The latest attack on a flag designed by an aide-de-camp to General George Washington and flown by American patriots during the Revolutionary War and beyond may prove similarly futile.
background
The Blaze News previously reported that Obama evangelist Jodi Kantor launched the latest phase of the joint public-private campaign on May 16 with an article in The New York Times titled, “‘Stop the Steal’ Symbol on Display at Judge Alito’s Residence.”
The so-called “Stop the Steal” symbol in question is an American flag, which Alito’s wife, Martha Ann Alito, allegedly put up “in response to a neighbor using offensive and personally derogatory language on a yard sign.”
Alito told the Times he had nothing to do with the incident, and Cantor offered no evidence linking the alleged flag-flipping to support for the Jan. 6 protests. But that didn’t stop Cantor from insinuating a connection, relying on partisan neighborly interpretations and adopting the blame-framing of left-wing “experts.”
Once the Times established the narrative, Democrats ran with it.
“He must recuse himself from the matters surrounding the 2020 election and former President Donald Trump.”
Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat, Illinois)
Said“Justice Alito should immediately recuse himself from cases related to the 2020 election and the January 6th insurrection, particularly the issue of former presidential immunity. United States vs. Donald TrumpThe Supreme Court is currently considering the matter.”
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who adopted the same scenario,
Said “Justice Samuel Alito should immediately apologize for his disrespect for the American flag and his sympathy for violent right-wing insurrectionists and recuse himself from matters involving the 2020 election and former President Donald Trump,” the statement said.
The Times ran another article building on Kanter’s original framework, with the help of former Marshall Project activist Abby VanSikle.
Other Democrats
Left-wing publications He agreed, suggesting that if Alito were to be involved in any future cases that have even the slightest connection to Trump or the January 6th incident, it would shake public confidence in the Supreme Court.
Having failed to rouse the public outrage they had hoped for, the joint public-private campaign tried a new angle on Monday. Law Doak posted a blog post:
Qualified“Justice Alito Sold Bud Light Stock in the Midst of Anti-Transgender Boycott.”
CNBC and other left-leaning media outlets reported the news, calling Justice Alito’s decision to divest his stake in Anheuser-Busch InBev “suspicious” and suggesting it was a sign of his partisanship, months after it became clear the company would not soon recover from a boycott over its work with cross-dressing activists.
“If this sale was a response to last year’s Bud Light controversy, it could create the impression of bias in future court cases regarding transgender rights,” said Gab Roth, executive director of the Committee on Transgender Rights.
Left-wing activist groups Fix the courts, Said CNBC.
45 Democrats voted for Alito letter On Tuesday, he requested to be removed from the case. Trump vs. the United States and Fisher v. United StatesOtherwise, he complained, his decision “could have serious implications for past and future presidents, and for the future of democracy itself.”
Once again, their efforts appear to have been in vain.
Another violation flag
Kanter is another
Provocative article On Wednesday, they collaborated, this time with Arik Toler, former research director at Bellingcat, and Julie Tate, a former researcher at The Washington Post.
‘[The justices’] Decisions determine where responsibility lies. [Trump] He could be arrested for attempting to overturn the results of the last presidential election and denying the possibility of taking back the White House in the next presidential election.”
The article again implies Justice Alito’s political bias and connects him to January 6th based on his alleged possession and display of a historically significant bipartisan flag.
In July and September 2023, someone took photos of an “Appeal to Heaven” flag that was reportedly flying above Alito’s New Jersey beach house.
Long before The New York Times deemed it controversial, the National Park Service
Shown Why a seagoing residence was an appropriate place to hoist such a flag: “This particular flag became well known at sea as the flag of a cruiser commissioned by General Washington, and was featured in many British newspapers of the time.”
The office of Republican Illinois Rep. Chris Miller ahead of the 2019 National Day of Prayer.
I got it. The flag, which features a pine tree along with Locke’s motto, “Appeal to Heaven” or “Appeal to God,” was “originally used by a squadron of six cruisers commissioned in October 1775 under the authority of George Washington, Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.”
“The flag’s design was created by General Washington’s secretary, Colonel Joseph Reed,” the statement from Miller’s office continued.
The pine tree has long been a symbol of New England, appearing on the New England flag that flew colonial merchant ships as far back as 1686. In the lead up to the Revolutionary War, the pine tree became a symbol of colonial anger and resistance. Colonists resented restrictions on the timber they could use for their needs and livelihoods. Prohibitions were ignored, and “Swamp Laws” were enacted to cut down pines as needed, regardless of the law.
In New Hampshire, the Pine Tree Riot of 1772 was one of the first powerful protests against British policies. The riot occurred almost two years before the more famous Boston Tea Party protests and three years before open hostilities began at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The pine tree was also used for the flag raised by the colonists at the Battle of Bunker Hill in June 1775.
Ted Kaye, Secretary of the North American Flag Association
Said The Massachusetts Navy adopted the pine tree flag in 1776 and used it until 1971, according to the Associated Press.
Jared Holt is a senior analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a foreign think tank.
Accused Journalist John McClellan, who has labeled mainstream conservative views as disinformation, told the Associated Press that the historic flag is associated with the “patriot” movement, which is fixated on the Founding Fathers and the American Revolutionary War.
“Some are entrenched in a Christian nationalist worldview that seeks to elevate Christianity in public life,” the liberal media outlet warned, echoing Holt’s comments in calling Alito’s alleged flag-raising “alarming.”
Apparently preparing for a full-scale condemnation, Holt said people who fly the flag tend to support “a more intolerant, restrictive form of government that aligns with a particular religious philosophy.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence did not support the January 6th protests. Underlined The flag “is part of our proud tradition of faith and freedom and should be flown with pride by all Americans.”
In his Times piece, Cantor stoked fears that the same judge who reportedly raised the historic American flag could rule “on a case that could dismiss some of the charges against Mr. Trump, as well as whether he should be granted immunity from prosecution for acts committed while in office.”
“This is a threat to the rule of law and a serious violation of ethics, integrity, and Justice Alito’s oath of office.”
Cantor appears to finally reveal what is at the heart of the Democratic senators’ effort to neutralize Alito, which was also mentioned in their Tuesday letter.[The justices’] Decisions determine where responsibility lies. [Trump] He could be held for trying to overturn the last presidential election and deny us the chance to take back the White House in the next election.”
Once again, Democrats are doing their part.
House Minority Leader Katherine Clark (D-Massachusetts) had her adult son arrested and indicted in January 2023 for assaulting a Boston police officer. Said “Justice Alito has flown in his home a flag that supports insurrection against the government, promotes religious nationalism, and attacks free and fair elections,” Justice Alito said in a statement Thursday.
“This is not just an example of extremism trumping conservatism. It is a threat to the rule of law and a serious violation of ethics, integrity, and Justice Alito’s oath of office,” Clark continued, without confirmation that Justice Alito had raised the flag. “At a minimum, he must recuse himself from any incident involving January 6th, Donald Trump, and the security of our elections. Anything less would be a stain on our system of justice and our democracy.”
