The unusual way Rangers’ Matt Rempe passed time before Game 2

How did Matt Rempe make it through a week where it seemed like the entire hockey world was talking about him despite not playing a single game?

He did so by going to a vampire-themed escape room with his friend, Adam Edstrom.

“We didn’t start well, but Eddie was full of energy,” the ebullient 21-year-old said on the morning of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. “And then in the second half, elite The code breaker. I solved the puzzle. He was so impressed he took us out for wings afterwards.

“It was a great job. It was a big success. It was a constellation puzzle. I didn’t know anything about constellations, but I solved it. No big deal. So, it was good. He took us out for wings, so that was fun.”

Rempe has been the talk of the town and the sports world despite not actually playing in the series-opening 3-0 loss to Florida.

Mark Messier asked him to be in the lineup.

Wayne Gretzky and Henrik Lundqvist spoke about him on TNT.

His ratio of on-ice time to attention must surely be the best ever.

Indeed, there was a crowd around Rempe’s locker at the MSG Training Center on Friday morning, and sure enough, Rempe provided some entertainment.

The escape game trio was completed by Edstrom’s girlfriend, so was Rempe the third participant?

“No,” he said.she “It was a love triangle.”

The Rangers did not conduct a line rush on Friday morning, so the question of whether Rempe would be inserted into the Game 2 lineup to be physical remained open as he spoke.

The only thing Peter Laviolette can say is that Rempe’s request to play will have no impact on the coaching staff’s decision.

But it was no surprise to see Rempe bubbling with energy: the 21-year-old riffed, staggered and dominated the room.

“if there is a chance, Munch“I’m ready. I’m prepared. I’ll be excited when it happens,” he said.

If Rempe was feeling any pressure at all, he would have tried very hard to hide it.

“I don’t like to think of it that way,” Rempe said. “Yeah, I got an opportunity. Am I nervous, like, ‘Oh, this is tough.’ No, I’m just going to go out there and enjoy it, shift by shift, every day by day.”

“That’s what I love to do: create chaos, skate hard and have fun. I’m 21. No pressure.”
