Shohei Ohtani Tops All-Star Voting

Shohei Ohtani is currently leading fan voting for the All-Star Game as one of four Dodgers players who topped the charts for their positions on the National League team, based on an update released by Major League Baseball this morning.

With over 1.1 million votes so far, Ohtani is the highest vote-getter in the early stages of this Midsummer Classic. This isn’t particularly surprising, though. The four-time MVP has been exceptional at the plate, boasting a .975 OPS—the best in the National League—and a remarkable 1.06 ERA, leading all pitchers with over 60 innings pitched.

Fan voting to decide the All-Star Game starters will continue for a few more weeks, but Ohtani seems almost certain to make the All-Star team for the sixth time in his career. From the latest voting tallies, it looks like he won’t be the only Dodger making the trip to Philadelphia.

First baseman Freddie Freeman, who is striving for the No. 10 spot, third baseman Max Muncy aiming for the No. 3, and outfielder Andy Pages looking for the No. 1 pick are also leading the pack at this point.

Catcher Will Smith, shortstop Mookie Betts, and outfielder Teoscar Hernandez are also performing well and positioned to advance to the next phase of voting, where fans will select the starting pitcher from a smaller group of finalists for each position.

The Dodgers have had strong representation in the All-Star Game recently, achieving at least five selections in each of the last six years. Furthermore, both Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Roblewski are in the top 10 for earned run average in the National League. While their selections won’t be determined by fan voting, there’s a chance they could bolster the Dodgers’ pitching staff this year.

Remember, the first round of All-Star voting wraps up on June 26th.
