Golf has two championships under its belt. PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray He died suddenly on Saturday morning at the age of 30.
Fellow PGA Tour golfer Peter Malnati gave an emotional interview after the third round. Charles Schwab Challenge He was paired with Murray in the first and second rounds of the tournament on Saturday.

“This is going to be really hard,” Malnati, already struggling to contain his emotions, began. “I didn’t know Grayson that well, but I spent the last two days with him.”

“And what’s really funny is, when we have a bad chance here or a good chance there, we get so worked up,” Malnati paused, fighting back tears. “We’re so competitive. We all want to beat each other. And when something like this happens, we realize we’re all just human.”
Murray withdrew from the tournament after the 16th hole on Friday, citing illness.
“This is a really, really difficult day. You look at Grayson and you see that he’s someone who has visibly and publicly struggled in the past and has been open about it, and then he’s been able to get his life back together and move forward with things. It’s really sad,” Malnati continued.

Murray has two career wins on tour, including a playoff victory over Keegan Bradley and Byung-hun Ahn at this year’s Sony Open in Hawaii, the first of which came at the 2017 Barbasol Championship.

Murray has been open about his past struggles with alcoholism and mental illness. In January he said he was eight months sober, was committed to marriage, had become a Christian and felt his best years of golf were ahead of him. He was also named to the 16-person Player Advisory Committee.

US Open Champion Webb Simpson, who has known Murray for more than 20 years, said Saturday that Murray has recently become more committed to his faith.

“He’s spent many years really exploring his faith, and it seems like in the last six to eight months he’s really started to dedicate his life to Christ and to honor Christ with his life. There’s definitely been a lighterness about him in the last few months that I’ve seen him, in a good way.”
The cause of death has not been made public.
