‘Didn’t Expect You To Be The Smartest Professional Athlete’: Danica Patrick Tells Tucker Why Some Are ‘Very Triggered’

Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick explained why people are “so upset” about 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in an interview with Tucker Carlson published Sunday.

Patrick shared his views on Trump with Carlson, Tucker Carlson Network (TCN) founder calls former female racing driver “smartest professional athlete.”

“Have you been attacked?” Carlson asked. “You said you’ve been attacked online.”

“Yeah, well, I was really surprised by the atmosphere when I went to the Turning Point event. I went with my sister when I talked about loving my country and posted these pictures. It was a really fun few days, but I was really surprised that people were so upset when I wasn’t taking a stand. I think people basically thought it was a Trump rally,” Patrick told Carlson.

Patrick took to Instagram in December 2023 to respond to comments from social media users who were unhappy with a photo she posted. “What’s so… I mean, I understand why people hate Trump. Yeah, I get it. I know Trump and I like Trump. He’s very funny and interesting. But I certainly understand why people hate him. Yeah, sure, it’s very obvious,” Carlson said. “But what I don’t understand is the hysteria and the brain shutting down and then doing the opposite just to give Trump the middle finger.”

“People are very excited,” Patrick said.

“But why?” Carlson asked. “What does that mean?”

“There are foundational things in our lives — politics, religion — that are the foundations of our reality, the things we’ve built our lives on. And when you pluck a piece out of that foundation — and this is my opinion — what happens is there’s an implicit subconscious understanding that if you pluck out one of those foundational elements, it has a snowball effect on the rest of your life. So if you pluck out one of those foundational elements, what else isn’t true?”

“Oh, that’s true,” Carlson said.

“What else is going to go wrong in your life? It’s a life-long change that brings out something fundamental,” Patrick said.

“I never thought of you as the smartest professional athlete,” Carlson said, to laughter from the former NASCAR driver.
