Mike Tyson suffered a health crisis on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, the fighter’s representative confirmed to The Washington Post on Monday.
“Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is in good spirits,” a representative for Tyson told The Washington Post in an email. “30 minutes before landing, his ulcer worsened, causing him to feel nauseous and dizzy. Mr. Tyson is grateful to the medical staff who rushed to his aid.”
In Touch Weekly He gave details about the horrifying scene for the first time, describing it as a “clearly medical horror.”
“Mike suffered some sort of medical emergency on the plane and paramedics were on board,” a source told the outlet. “Before the paramedics arrived, the plane made an announcement to call for a doctor, and that message was also shown on everyone’s screens.”
The paper said it was unclear whether Tyson, 57, was removed from the flight, which was delayed by two hours in Miami.
In an email to The Washington Post, a representative for Tyson said the delay was due to air conditioning issues, not to Tyson’s medical treatment.
According to In Touch Weekly, passengers heard an announcement asking for medical professionals to be called about 30 minutes before the plane was due to land in Los Angeles.
“He was in first class, but we were in the exit row and the stewardess was very chatty. They told us to stay on the plane and they landed so paramedics could get in,” a source told In Touch Weekly. “She said something like, ‘He’s a really important passenger and we want to make sure he’s OK’. I knew it was him, but I just said the words ‘Mike Tyson’ and she nodded.”
The passenger’s departure was delayed by 25 minutes due to reported medical concerns.
Tyson is scheduled to return to the ring on July 20 against Jake Paul.
