Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are scheduled to host a special fundraising dinner for President Biden in Virginia next month.

The June 18 event will be hosted by former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and comes just days after another fundraiser in Los Angeles that will include Biden and Clinton as well as President Barack Obama. That event will be hosted by actor George Clooney.

The fundraising strategy has been successful in the past with several presidents, with Biden outraising former President Trump in the 2024 election cycle, according to Open Secrets. A similar program in New York raised $26 million in one night there.

But Biden is facing pressure to maintain his lead after the Trump campaign received $76 million in donations in April compared with $51 million for the Biden campaign.

of Total donations That’s a change from March, when Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised about $90 million, compared with $65.6 million raised by Trump and the Republican National Committee. Biden still has more cash on hand than Trump, with his campaign and affiliated committees having $192 million.

While Biden has consistently outraised Trump in monthly fundraising, Trump’s April total was boosted by a record $50.5 million the former president’s campaign raised at a single event for top Republican donors at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson earlier that month.

The Biden campaign focused on small donations, saying, “The majority of our fundraising in April came from grassroots donors, with more than 1 million supporters added to our email lists that month alone.”

They also criticized Trump, arguing that his campaign “runs through cash early in the election cycle and focuses almost exclusively on raising billionaire donors instead of building a durable grassroots fundraising program.”

In an announcement earlier this month, Trump campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles pointed to the campaign’s grassroots fundraising prowess, saying, “With half of the money raised coming from small donors, it’s clear that our base is galvanizing.”

And they vowed to “raise the funds necessary to deliver victory in November.”
