Dave Portnoy teasing World Series of Poker entry: ‘Light Work’

Dave Portnoy seems ready to go all in at this year’s World Series of Poker.

“I think I might be able to win this particular event.” Portnoy posted on X With images from the three-day World Series of Poker event starting June 21. “(A) quarter million dollar buy-in. Apparently a bracelet is still up for grabs, which is the big deal. Plus, it only takes about three days. Easy job.”

Portnoy has previously said that winning the World Series of Poker on Saturday is on his mind, seemingly referring to the Main Event, but the calendar may not be in his favor.

“I can’t decide if I want to win the World Series of Poker this year. I wish it was this close to the Fourth of July.” Posted by Barstool Sports founder.

The World Championship Main Event is the most watched event of the tournament and is televised every year, becoming a mainstream event in the mid-2000s.

This year’s tournament will take place from July 3-17 and will be broadcast on CBS Sports, with the winner receiving a bracelet in addition to the tournament prize money.

If Portnoy wants to enjoy the day off while still competing in the main event, he can take advantage of late registration, which allows entries up until July 8th.

However, this strategy has some drawbacks, as it puts all late-registered players at a severe stack disadvantage as other players gain a significant lead in the tournament.

Portnoy doesn’t seem interested in the tough road to victory, opting instead for another tournament with a ridiculously high buy-in of $250,000.

Christopher Brewer won the 2023 “Super High Roller Tournament,” taking home $5,293,556 and the famous bracelet, a huge status symbol around the world.

It’s unclear whether the Super High Roller tournament will be televised or streamed. While it’s unlikely to happen like in 2023, Portnoy will be a high-profile event that could generate enough interest for streaming services and TV networks to jump on board.
