Katrina Pierson, a former national press secretary for former President Trump’s 2016 campaign, won her primary runoff election on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Texas Rep. Justin Holland.
Holland was one of several Republican incumbents targeted on Tuesday for voting against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).
Holland, who has represented the district since 2017, was one of dozens of Republicans who voted to impeach Governor Paxton, did not support Governor Abbott’s signature education voucher program, and also voted to raise the age to purchase assault rifles from 18 to 21.
Abbott campaigned alongside Pearson ahead of Tuesday night’s election, and Paxton also endorsed her campaign.
Both Abbott and Paxton took to social media to congratulate Pearson on her win.
“Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson for defeating Austin RINO Justin Holland,” Paxton’s campaign account said. Posts “We’ve sent a strong message to Austin that if lawmakers continue to prioritize Democrats over Conservative policies, we won’t be returning in 2026,” he wrote on social media platform X.
“Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson on her stunning victory in the Republican Primary runoff election for House District 33! #txlege,” Abbott’s campaign account posted to X.
The Hill has reached out to Holland’s campaign for a statement.
