South Carolina Freedom Caucus It’s a coalition of more than a dozen state lawmakers fighting to advance conservative principles in the Palmetto State, but Republicans Overwhelming majority In Congress, the Freedom Caucus’ fight is not just against Democrats but also Republicans.
State Rep. Josiah Magnuson (R-Ill.), who serves as executive director of the Freedom Caucus, told The Blaze News that both Republicans and Democrats (collectively known as the “uniparty”) “view the Freedom Caucus as the enemy.”

State Rep. Adam Morgan (R-Ill.), chairman of the conservative group, told The Blaze News he saw a pattern: the Freedom Caucus would raise an issue, other Republicans would suggest it wasn’t an issue, “we’d put it on the record, they’d vote against it, and they’d all get hammered,” but then the GOP opposition would change tack and say, “we’re all going to vote for the conservative principles at hand” because they have to face an election.
He said there is a “core group of absolute RINO establishment hacks, Democrats who like to dress up as women and act like Republicans.”
Morgan also noted that there are many moderate Republicans who sometimes agree with the Freedom Caucus but also with the leadership.

Walter Wettsell, president and owner of Starboard Communications, is active in the South Carolina Republican Caucus and the Palmetto Truth Project.
“The South Carolina House Republican Caucus is one of many clients for whom we provide consulting services, and we work directly with many members of the House Republican Caucus individually,” Wetsell told The Blaze-News. “We also provide consulting services to the Palmetto Truth Project, as well as to over two dozen other clients.”
“Members of the Freedom Caucus have been very misleading in their explanations to voters, occasionally admitting that their real goal is to ‘burn the place down,'” Wetsell said.
“The Post and Courier has exposed the Freedom Caucus’ deception on issues ranging from allowing convicted felons to openly carry handguns, to not raising pay for police officers and school teachers, to proposing penalties (up to the death penalty) for women who get abortions,” he argued. “All the while, they’ve voted ‘no’ to state income tax cuts that would put more money in the hands of hard-working taxpayers.”
Given the opportunity to respond to some of Wetzel’s comments, Magnuson told The Blaze News, “The South Carolina Freedom Caucus is a real threat to the power of the good old men of Columbia Swamp, so it’s no wonder they’re so desperate to lie about us.”
“Our legislators have consistently voted for the budget items that matter – infrastructure, law enforcement, teacher pay increases – and in fact have advocated for increased funding for these areas rather than wasting taxpayer money on outrageous profit-driven schemes. And none of us have ever advocated for the death penalty for abortion. It is a failed political system that is trying to spread a misleading narrative across our state – they’re interested in pleasing themselves, not the truth,” Magnuson said.
Wetzel told The BlazeNews that the amount of money the Palmetto Truth Project spends “seems to grow with each passing day of failure and surprises from the Freedom Caucus. I provide marketing advice to their group based on this issue.”[s] “They’re concerned and they’re providing them with a range of marketing options to get those messages to rational, reasonable, common-sense conservative voters,” he noted.
Morgan, who is challenging incumbent Rep. William Timmons in the Republican primary for South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District, said “we don’t have enough Lindsey Grahams in office” and we need more people like Reps. Chip Roy and Ralph Norman. Graham is one of the state’s two senators; Roy currently represents Texas’ 21st District and Norman represents South Carolina’s 5th District.
“The ruling coalition of liberal Republicans and their Democratic allies has succumbed to the woke left and the globalist onslaught on American freedom,” the South Carolina Freedom Caucus leadership team said in a statement provided by Magnuson to The Blaze News.
“We’re exposing the RINOs and forcing them to address issues that Republicans actually care about.”
“Under 30 years of RINO leadership, they have allowed our roads to crumble, law enforcement morale to decline, and small businesses across our state to close. They have canceled primaries, removed DEI and CRT from our state, failed to reform our behind-the-scenes judicial selection process, and continue to promote crony capitalism and corporate welfare for the politically connected,” the statement declared. “The SC Freedom Caucus is the first real threat to the failed status quo, which is why lobbyists, special interests, and liberal leaders are teaming up to relentlessly attack South Carolina’s only true conservative legislator.”
“Our refusal to budge on conservative policy positions, our refusal to sign a Soviet-style loyalty pledge to protect our old buddies, and our insistence on roll call votes have sent shivers down Columbia’s political clubs. We are exposing the RINOs and forcing them to address issues that Republican voters really care about,” the statement noted. “The political system is watching the sycophants of vested lawmakers, their special interest friends, and woke corporate interests fade away. By returning the people’s house to the people and creating conservative reform solutions, the South Carolina Freedom Caucus is moving our state from the most liberal Republican state in the nation to the beacon of conservatism South Carolinians expect and deserve.”
