A video is going viral that purportedly shows a conversation between golfer Scottie Scheffler and a police officer shortly after he got into an altercation with another officer outside Valhalla Country Club about two weeks ago.
In the video, Scheffler can be heard trying to explain to the officer that he mistook the officer who told him to stop for a security guard — an explanation that didn’t make sense to the officer questioning him.
“Stop right there,” the officer retorted. “Someone is telling you to stop, so what does it matter if it’s a security guard or a police officer?”
The officer then details why Scheffler should have known the person speaking to him was a police officer or a person of authority, and describes the injuries sustained by the officer who told him to stop.
A video posted to Facebook from May 23 shows Scottie Scheffler saying something in a police vehicle after his arrest: “You’re right, I should have stopped. I was way behind schedule and I was just kind of annoyed,” the officer said, saying Scheffler “drugged” the officer and “injured him.” https://t.co/R4YtBZ2Wg3 pic.twitter.com/IosEtwj2tZ

Scotti politely explained that he didn’t know it was a police officer, and said the officer “seemed a little too aggressive because of the open entrance.” Another officer said the yellow jacket should have made it clear that he was law enforcement.

The other officer added: “You actually hurt him. And he’s a police officer. He’s got a big abrasion on his knee. The paramedics are examining him. It’s a big bruise.”

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Scheffler’s lawyer, Steve Romines, who will appear at the hearing, said Tuesday that his client has no intention of settling.
“Tuesday’s Romines Repeated Scheffler told CNN he was open to either dropping the charges or going to trial without a plea deal. The Louisville lawyer would not say whether a settlement had been reached or whether he would drop the charges on Wednesday. He is scheduled to hold a news conference just 30 minutes after the court hearing begins.
