Texas Court Releases Evidence in Murder Case Involving Carmelo Anthony

A Texas court has unveiled a collection of audio and video recordings tied to the murder trial of Carmelo Anthony, marking the first time the public has had access to these details from the proceedings.

The newly released evidence features surveillance footage, police body camera videos, photographs, emergency call recordings, and other investigative materials regarding the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Earlier this month, Anthony was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison, and his attorneys have indicated that he plans to appeal the decision.

Among the records is surveillance video captured near the site of the stabbing, showing events just before a disturbance occurred under a tent at Memorial High School. The footage identifies Anthony as the individual seen fleeing the scene and running down nearby bleachers.

The court documents also contain body camera footage from the officers who arrested Anthony. In this video, while he’s being restrained, the camera turns away, but the audio captures him stating, “They don’t hate me. I did it.”

Included in the released evidence are 911 calls made just after the stabbing incident. In one recording, the caller informed the dispatcher that Metcalf had suffered a severe stab wound. They provided a description of the suspect as a Black male in a gray hoodie and blue sweatpants, who was reportedly near the railroad tracks adjacent to the scene. The caller also indicated that Metcalf had been stabbed in the chest as paramedics were en route.

“What did he stab your friend with?” the dispatcher asked.

“I don’t know. My friend is bleeding everywhere,” was the worried response from the caller.

Further evidence released includes photos of the knife believed to have been used in the crime, an image of Anthony’s backpack, and several videos showing the activity surrounding the tent before the stabbing. This evidence became public less than two weeks after a jury’s guilty verdict in Anthony’s case.
