President Biden’s reelection campaign argued Thursday that billionaires see former President Trump as a convenient “sucker” who can cut their taxes.
The Biden campaign has disputed a Wall Street Journal report that Tesla CEO Elon Musk could become a White House adviser as a way to offer “formal input” on the economy and border policy if Trump is elected in November.
“Regardless of what Donald Trump might think, America will not be sold to billionaires, oil and gas executives, or even Elon Musk,” Biden campaign spokesman James Singer said in a statement.
“Trump is selling out America to pay his legal fees and hold on to power, but billionaires like Elon all see him as a sucker. They know that if they give to Trump’s campaign, their taxes will be cut and Social Security and other middle-class benefits will be cut,” Singer added.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
The Biden camp said Trump It is said that he promised Trump has expanded his outreach to wealthy donors, including by backing tax cuts and policies that favor billionaires. Last month, Trump raised $50 million for his campaign at a fundraiser in Palm Beach, Florida, hosted by hedge fund billionaire John Paulson.
Singer argued that Biden, unlike Trump, is a champion of the middle class.
“Joe Biden has spent his entire career standing up to people like Elon and fighting for the middle class, and that’s why he’s going to win in November,” Singer said.
