Democratic lawmakers rejoiced Thursday after a New York jury convicted former President Donald Trump of falsifying business records.
“Today in New York, we saw that no one is above the law,” Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler said in a statement after the verdict.
“Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed that he could break the law for his own selfish gain and not be punished. But today’s verdict does not change the simple reality facing the American people: There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump from the Oval Office: the ballot box. With or without a conviction, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president,” he explained, emphasizing that Trump remains likely to win the November election.

But, according to Tyler, “the threat that Trump poses to our democracy is greater than it has ever been.”
Trump was convicted on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The verdict marks the first time a U.S. president has been convicted of a crime.

“Guilty. Today, 12 ordinary Americans found a former president guilty of dozens of felonies. Despite attempts at distraction, delay and denial, justice has finally been served for Donald Trump and the rule of law has prevailed,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat who is currently running for Senate.

“It matters that the Republican nominee for president is a convicted felon,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said.
“And this will not be his last conviction,” he argued. “He has committed multiple crimes and will be convicted multiple times. He will never be president again.”

Rep. Jim Clyburn, a U.S. attorney representing Biden, wrote on X, “The jury has decided. Justice has prevailed.”
The president’s campaign welcomed the verdict, but Biden’s spokesman, Ian Sams, expressed more concern, saying only that “we respect the rule of law and have no further comment.”
