Five people, including a 4-year-old, were killed when three vehicles crashed and burst into flames near the southern South Carolina coast, authorities said Thursday.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a BMW driver traveling south on a road in St. Helena Island attempted to pass a Toyota pickup truck also traveling south on Wednesday night. The BMW reportedly collided head-on with a Honda sedan traveling north, causing the BMW to overturn and burst into flames. After the initial collision, the Toyota pickup truck also struck the BMW, according to police reports.
Four killed in head-on collision in Virginia
The four occupants of the BMW and the driver of the Honda, who was the vehicle’s only passenger, died at the scene, according to Beaufort County Coroner David Ott.
Five people were killed in a three-vehicle crash in South Carolina Wednesday night.
The coroner identified the drivers who died as Raymond Duggin, 26, and Mary Seabrook, 46, both of Beaufort, and St. Helena Island residents Henry Watson, 31, Tierra Seabrook, 31, and Jaysean Perry, 4. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
The patrol said the accident is currently under investigation.

St. Helena Island is about 10 miles southeast of Beaufort.
