Lawmakers invite Netanyahu to address Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (Dynamo, N.Y.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (Dynamo, N.Y.) have invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress.

“The horrific attacks of October 7th shocked the world and forced the nation into a fight for its very existence. We stand with the State of Israel in the fight against terrorism, especially as Hamas continues to hold American and Israeli citizens captive and its leaders threaten regional stability,” the lawmakers said in the message.

“The existential challenges we face threaten the security, peace, and prosperity of our nations and free people around the world.”

“Therefore, on behalf of the bipartisan leadership of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, we ask that you address a joint session of Congress,” said the message signed by the four lawmakers.

“The existential challenges we face, including growing alliances between Iran, Russia and China, threaten the security, peace and prosperity of our countries and free people around the world. To build our enduring relationship and underscore American-Israeli solidarity, we call on you to share the government of Israel’s vision for defending democracy, fighting terrorism, and establishing a just and lasting peace in the region,” the message concluded.

On October 7 last year, terrorists carried out a heinous attack that included massacres, rape and kidnappings.

Israel has waged war in response, and Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman is a staunch supporter of the Jewish state.

“The refusal of some members of Congress to condemn this atrocity, their calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state or their support for the International Criminal Court’s request for an arrest warrant are all not only a perverse interpretation of justice but an abomination against peace and the return of all hostages.” Tweet Fetterman’s @SenFettermanPA X account wrote:
