The New York Police Department is now looking for an illegal immigrant on a felony arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in a double homicide that occurred Friday morning. New York Post report.
Jose Ruben Silva, a 21-year-old Venezuelan national, has only been in the United States for about a year, and in that time he has already been arrested six times by the NYPD on a variety of charges, including motorcycle robbery and theft, law enforcement sources told the news outlet.
“Who says stealing sunglasses can’t escalate into a double murder?”
Two people were shot and killed outside an apartment building in the Bronx on Friday morning. Sources told The Washington Post that an argument began when someone made a comment about a 44-year-old woman and her 36-year-old boyfriend, leading to a confrontation with passersby. After a brief argument, the man left the apartment and entered the building. He later returned with a group of friends armed with a baseball bat, sources told the news outlet.
During the argument, one of the friends fired a gun, striking the woman and her boyfriend, who were both taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, authorities said.
A 21-year-old woman was also shot, but her injuries are not life-threatening.
Silva is currently wanted for his alleged involvement in the deadly shooting.
In early February, Silva was charged with petit larceny, The Washington Post reported. Later that month, Silva was reportedly arrested for grand larceny and illegal possession of a loaded firearm. Silva was on probation. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he fled the scene, The Post reported.
In April, Silva was arrested again, this time on suspicion of robbery, and in early May, sources told The Post, Silva was indicted on a charge of possession of stolen property.
“We have no idea who they are, what they’ve been doing in their countries or what they’re planning to do now that they’re here,” a law enforcement source told The Post.
“Who’s to say that a case of stolen sunglasses won’t turn into a double murder?” the source asked. “But maybe that all can be explained because someone is an ‘immigrant’.”
“Empathy doesn’t get you away with a double murder. We have to address this issue or it will get us involved,” the source added.
