LGBTQ Pride Month began on Saturday. To celebrate the month dedicated to members of the LGBTQ community, organizations and brands shared LGBTQ Pride posts on social media. There were some controversial social media posts that got people in stitches, including posts from government agencies and Sesame Street.
Sesame street
Official Sesame Street social media accounts Posts: “Happy #PrideMonth From Sesame Street! Today and every day, we celebrate and encourage LGBTQIA+ members of our community. Together, we can build a world where every person and family feels loved and welcomed for who they are.”
Hundreds of responses came out in opposition to the Sesame Street account promoting LGBTQ to young children.
Novelist Frank J. Fleming: “Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I’m not sure that preschoolers need to know about or celebrate a range of sexual desires.”
Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon: “Sesame Street’s target audience is children between the ages of 2 and 5.”
Department of Defense
Department of Defense I have written“Pride Month is a time to come together to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ+ service members. We are committed to ensuring and promoting an atmosphere of dignity and respect for all civilian and military members.”
United States Air Force Veteran Buzz Patterson: “I want you damn bastards back in the military again. I want the best generals (we don’t have them) and a lethal joint force. I don’t want this shit! I’ve earned the right to say so. Focus!”
Ann X-user: “There are two big wars going on and instability everywhere. This is your focus.”
Another user: “Your account is a disgrace to our country. Please delete it.”
Another X user: “You guys spend more time honoring the Alphabet Crew than you do honoring veterans. Shame on you.”
National Weather Service
National Weather Service stated: “Let’s think together, empower and unite pride “It’s a month to celebrate the diversity of our NWS family. Their skills and perspectives enable us to fulfill our mission of protecting our diverse nation.”
After receiving criticism for its responses, the National Weather Service began hiding dozens of them.
“As a reminder, NWS has posting policies and reserves the right to hide posts that violate these policies. It is our policy to hide posts/replies that violate the following criteria,” the weather service said.
Department of Veterans Affairs
Official Social Media Accounts of the Department of Veterans Affairs X Said“This Pride Month, and every day, VA openly and proudly recognizes the more than 1 million LGBTQ+ veterans who have served our country. We thank each and every one of them, and all who have served in uniform, for their service and sacrifice.”
Many commentators pointed out that June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month.
White House
President Joe Biden’s White House proclaimed: “Happy Pride Month! This month, and every month, our Administration celebrates the extraordinary courage of LGBTQI+ people and proudly stands with them in the fight for equality, justice, and inclusion.”
Last June, Biden hosted the largest-ever LGBTQ Pride event at the White House to celebrate “America’s LGBTQ family.”
On Friday, President Biden proclaimed June 2024 “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Pride Month.”
“I call on Americans to recognize the accomplishments of the LGBTQI+ community, celebrate the diversity of our American people, and fly high the flag of pride,” Biden said. Declared.
Biden continued, “To our entire LGBTQI+ community, and especially our transgender children: know that the President and my entire Administration stand with you. We see you for who you are. You were created in God’s image and you deserve dignity, respect and support.”
But Biden had a very different opinion in 2008.
During the 2008 vice presidential debate, Biden was asked if he supported same-sex marriage. Reply“No. Neither Barack Obama nor I are in favor of redefining what marriage is in civil terms. We don’t support that.”
