Rangers fan displays New York Post’s legendary Mark Messier back page

Rangers fans are truly channeling the spirit of 1994 and turning to the New York Post for help.

Bleacher Report’s Hockey X site captured a photo of a fan watching the make-or-break Game 6 battle between the Rangers and Panthers holding up an original copy of the 1994 edition of Mark Messier’s NBA All-Star game guaranteeing victory over the Devils before Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Needless to say, the rest is history, as the Rangers beat the Devils 4-2 on the road in Game 6 and then beat New Jersey 2-1 in double overtime on a famous goal by Stephane Matteau.

The Rangers went into Game 6 facing the same situation the 2024 team is currently facing in the Eastern Conference finals.

This series has played out similarly to that legendary showdown so far, with the Rangers winning Games 2 and 3 and losing Games 1, 4 and 5.

The Rangers’ legendary captain told The Post’s Mark Cannizaro on Friday that he believes the Blueshirts could follow the same scenario and get past the Panthers.

Now, all this Rangers fan and Blueshirt supporter can do is hope their captain is right and they can win Games 6 and 7 just like Messier’s legendary teams did.

But they will have to come back from a 1-0 deficit thanks to a goal from Sam Bennett late in the first period.
