Brookfield’s thriving Manhattan West complex already houses Italian, Middle Eastern, Spanish and Japanese restaurants and will soon be joined by local American favourite PJ Clark’s.
The eatery, officially called PJ Clarke’s Oyster Bar & Grille, has signed a lease for 7,500 square feet at 424 W. 34th St. (also known as 4 Manhattan West), a boutique office building between 9th and 10th Avenues.
It’s the only century-old building in Brookfield’s $5 billion development on eight acres in west Manhattan.
The new PJ’s is owner Phil Scotti’s fourth location in Manhattan, joining the original on Third Avenue and East 55th Street, which opened in 1884, as well as locations in Lincoln Square on the Upper West Side and Brookfield Place downtown.
In addition to burgers, the restaurant will also be selling dishes made with local seafood.
Manhattan West is in some ways the most successful of Manhattan’s three new commercial developments: The western half of the planned Hudson Yards remains undeveloped, and the World Trade Center is still one building short of its four planned buildings and plagued by vacant retail space.
But despite the pandemic and the office market crash, Manhattan West was largely a cakewalk for Brookfield and its partner, the Qatar Investment Authority.
A new office tower, the Pendry Hotel, a rental apartment tower in Eugene, and several public plazas were completed on schedule on platforms above the busy railroad tracks.

The One Manhattan West tower is 99 percent leased, the recently completed Two Manhattan West is 84 percent leased and Five Manhattan West is 100 percent leased. Tenants include Skadden, Amazon, R/GA, Accenture, Ernst & Young, JP Morgan Chase, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, NHL and Spanish finance company BBVA, which acquired 74,000 square feet in November.
Stores include Whole Foods, Peloton, NHL, etc. Key restaurants include Ci Siamo, ZouZou, Casa Dani, etc.
