The internet has long been host to pornographic accounts, communities, and websites, but Elon Musk’s X has reportedly made the decision to officially allow pornographic content on its platform. TechCrunchThe social media platform has never said that adult content is banned or allowed.
The social media giant added a clause to its terms, confirming that NSFW (not suitable for viewing at work) content will be allowed on its platform as long as it’s consensual and legal, and content will have to be labelled as such.
The most worrying thing is AI-Generated Video Explicit content is also allowed on the platform.
“We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires and experiences, including those related to sexuality.”
But the addition of the clause isn’t surprising, as Musk has already experimented with hosting adult content on the platform. Previous Report According to the Verge, Musk said the company is seeing great growth in its community features, but noted that “there’s a lot of work to be done to make them compelling.”
“We are rapidly transforming from Twitter 1.0 to an app for everything. [An] “We want a comprehensive feature set that can do basically anything in our system,” Musk said. “Obviously, we’re not excluding other apps, but I think the fundamental thing that’s missing that would be extremely useful is a single application that does it all – payments, messaging, video, calling, everything – all from one convenient place.”
The company argued that it was moving in this direction because it wants users to be able to converse about what’s going on around them. According to the rule change, users under the age of 18 will not be able to see such posts on the platform.
X has never officially banned adult content, nor has it shown any support for it, but reports suggest that it could potentially rival OnlyFans by developing a service focused on explicit content.
The following X’s Statement Regarding this matter:
We believe that users should be able to create, distribute and consume material related to sexual themes, so long as it is produced and distributed consensually. Sexual imagery, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression.
We believe that adults have the autonomy to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires and experiences, including those regarding sexual preferences. We balance this freedom by limiting exposure to adult content for children and adult users who do not wish to view such material.
X also said that adult content cannot “depict sexual violence.” The platform will continue to ban content that threatens or incites violence, and users can still opt out of seeing explicit material on their timelines.
When Blaze News asked X’s AI chatbot Grok about the new rules, Grok responded rather humorously: “This is not laissez-faire. X has also made it clear that we do not allow non-consensual nudity or sexually explicit content featuring minors.”
“So if you’re planning on sharing photos from your nudist beach vacation, make sure you mark them as sensitive content. And no matter how much you want to share an intimate video with your ex, remember that it’s a big no-no without consent,” Grok added.
